Step lifts are worth considering wherever the rise is short. They suit entrances, stage edges, raised reception areas, and the split level corridors that older school buildings are full of. Because the travel is short, a step lift needs less structural work than a full enclosed platform lift, which usually makes it quicker to install and cheaper to run. On an external threshold it also removes the need for a long ramp, which on a constrained site is often the deciding factor.
